Where are the salmon???
A friend and I were out salmon fishing early one morning in a small, 15' aluminum boat off the coast of Sooke on Vancouver Island. We realized there were no fish around, as we hadn't had a bite in a couple of hours. Our mystery was solved shortly after, when we saw a pod of 22 resident orcas heading towards us. Soon we found ourselves needing to cut the outboard motor, as the orcas were swimming under the boat and we didn't want them to get cut. For about 30 minutes, they swam and played around us as we floated amongst the pod, their tails smacking the water and getting us soaked as they treated us to a show. It was a spectacular, once in a lifetime experience that I will treasure forever in the Canadian outdoors.
