Went on a road trip from Calgary south with my mother and girlfriend Fiona. Fiona had never been to the western side of North America and I kept telling her that it was very different from the East. We traveled down through Black Diamond, Vulcan, etc, to eventually end up in Dinosaur Provincial Park. Really glad it was overcast as my girlfriend is very fair skinned and it was pushing the high 30s when we got out of the air conditioned car. The heat hit, but the smell of the arid plants... Sweetgrass, and the sounds hit harder. Everyone talks about the Rockies, but for me I miss the dry heat of the Albertan badlands... and my mom who still stays in the house I grew up in Calgary.
